My fascination with glass began at the age of ten when a master glassblower from East Germany and his family moved into my neighborhood. I spent every opportunity in the studio of my future teacher and mentor, and in time he accepted me as his apprentice. It has been well over 30 years since my old-world apprenticeship, and although I’ve had my own studio most of that time, I still consider myself a student of art glass. I am still fascinated by what can be created in the flames of a torch.
My craftsmanship and drive for artistic expression run in the family. I am a forth generation artisan -- my great-grandfather produced most of the original decorative iron work and metal lighting fixtures for the Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. Although succeeding generations have worked in metal, wood, paint and textiles, I am the first to embrace hot glass as an artistic medium.
While circumstances and personal obligations have occasionally led me to other careers along the way, I continue to be drawn back to glass. I have concentrated on lampwork, including pendants, paperweights, birds, sea mammals, and small wildlife sculptures, working in borosilicate glass. Recently I have begun creating fused and faceted glass pieces, including pendants and paperweights, from soft and dichroic glass. Each piece is a unique creation, handcrafted in my private studio in the San Francisco Bay area
My work is featured in retail stores, gift shops, galleries, private collections internationally, and the occasional craft show.
This web site features a sampling of my work. If you have any quetions about anything you see here, please feel free to email me.
